The fight against leprosy is one of the greatest public health successes in history. Yet, still today, 2 to 3 million people are living with physical disability and stigma as a result of the disease.
Multi-drug therapy (MDT) has been a major breakthrough in the treatment of leprosy and its free availability has reduced the global disease burden by 95% in the past three decades.
We had opportunity to collaborate and work with big pharma, NGOs and WHO (World Health Organization) to improve patient care here in India on pilot basis. We are tasked with designing a intuitive platform to capture datapoints for frontline workers. We are proud to be part of greater vision to eradicate leprosy forever by developing of an accelerator of leprosy screening/diagnosis that analyzes images of skin lesions.
Impact we deliver
We delivered a comprehensive platform that enhanced leprosy care by capturing multiple personas and profiles and conducting thorough interviews. This led to the design of an intuitive, interactive user interface for diagnosing skin lesions. The platform’s advanced image analysis feature enabled accurate, early detection of leprosy. We also implemented real-time dashboarding for data mining and analytics, providing continuous monitoring and facilitating evidence-based decisions. Our work has streamlined leprosy screening and diagnosis, improved patient outcomes, and contributed to reducing stigma and disability, aligning with the vision of eradicating leprosy.

Our solutions
Persona mapping
5 different personas are identified and build their user stories as well as use cases. Created wireframes based on these persona enabled doctors to track patients information other staff from physiotherapist, pharmacist, clinical examiner and lab assistant. Customised solution focused on Leprosy enabled hospital to fast track its operations.
Interactive data UI
Each users can upload patient level details based on their department care. This process driven approach enables doctor to track patient history and disease progression. They can track leprosy related endpoints such as, Scar, Ulcer, Patch around different areas on the patient body by marking them digitally in an interactive human anatomy map, which can be monitored periodically by clinical examiner.
Dashboard and reportings

Extensive user interviews
We conducted comprehensive user interviews with all personas by visiting the leprosy healthcare facility. This hands-on approach allowed us to deeply understand their pain points and how digitalization could enhance patient care. By engaging directly with patients and healthcare providers, we gathered valuable insights into their unique challenges and needs. This understanding will guide the development of targeted digital solutions to improve treatment and overall care for this complex disease.
Iterative design process
The iterative design process was key to refining the leprosy eradication platform for each persona. Frontline workers received a simplified, mobile-friendly interface with features like voice-to-text for easy data entry. Medical experts benefited from enhanced accuracy in the AI-driven lesion analysis tool. Project managers got customisable dashboards and automated reporting for effective monitoring. Continuous feedback ensured the platform was tailored to each user’s needs, improving usability, accuracy, and overall project efficiency.
